Supporting Volunteer Befrienders and Mentors – How are we doing and are we there yet?

Friday 28th March 10.00am to 3.00pm

Glenavon House Hotel, Cookstown, Co Tyrone

Keynote Speaker Steve Matthews, Chief Executive, Mentoring and Befriending Foundation

• Do you find it hard to recruit and retain volunteers for befriending or mentoring work?
• Do you face challenges in meeting the needs of volunteers and clients?
• Would you like the chance to explore issues around training, support and supervision?
• Would you relish the opportunity for some time out to talk with others in the same situation?
• Would you welcome taking part in a discussion that will inform and influence the support on offer in future?

Today there are hundreds of volunteers in befriending and mentoring roles across Northern Ireland working with a wide range of groups and in a wide range of settings, from home visits to support the mothers of newborn babies, telephone calls and visits to vulnerable and isolated people, mentors to get young people into employment, through to volunteers who sit with people who are nearing the end of their lives.
This conference looks at how we can best address the important, continuing challenge of supporting these volunteers effectively, in ways that meet their needs and the needs of their clients. We hope that by coming together to discuss some of the issues and opportunities, we can identify new approaches to supporting volunteer befrienders and mentors effectively and ensure long lasting healthy volunteer-client relationships.
The conference will be of interest to you if your organisation or group has volunteer befrienders or mentors no matter who they work with or in what setting.

To reserve your place, please complete and return a booking form by Friday 21st March 2014.
A hot lunch is provided.  Maximum 2 delegates per organisation.
If you have any queries surrounding the conference please contact Mary McNickle at Causeway Volunteer Centre on 028 703 58285 or email info@causewayvc.org
