TinyLife is Northern Ireland's premature and vulnerable baby charity committed to ensuring that all families who have experienced the birth of a baby requiring special or intensive care get all the help they need.
TinyLife family support volunteers play a vital role in providing practical and emotional support to parents and make a real impact on the lives of premature and ill babies and their families. Even a few hours of your each week will make a huge difference.
Family support volunteers lend a hand in a variety of ways such as:
- helping parents with hospital visits while their baby is in neonatal care
- visiting families in their own homes to provide practical support in caring for the new baby
- helping and playing with siblings
- providing a listening ear and reassurance for parents during what can be a very stressful and difficult time in their lives
Comprehensive training is provided - all family support volunteers complete an induction training programme covering topics such as:
- Premature Birth & Illness in babies
- The role of a TinyLife volunteer
- Family Life: Living with an ill baby
- Child Protection
- First Aid for babies
- Child Accident prevention
- Commitment & Boundaries
- Confidentiality
You will have regular contact and monthly support meetings with a designated member of the TinyLife Family Support team and have the chance to attend ongoing training and social events. You will also be reimbursed for travel expenses each month.
