Activities Volunteer - Old Library Trust : DEEDS Programme (Dementia Engaged and Empowered Derry & Strabane)


   

Overview:   The main aim of the programme is to enable people living with dementia to live better for longer within their own communities and to progress Derry City and Strabane area as a Dementia Friendly Region.  The Project will deliver weekly activity groups, weekly social groups, carers education and respite as well as a programme of events and activities to reduce isolation and enhance emotional wellbeing.

The Volunteer will:

* Have an interest in supporting people living with dementia

* Have good empathy for the group participants  

* Have a desire to be a positive role model and a willingness to engage and help the group participants

* Have an ability to build rapport with the participant group and have good communication skills

* Be able to participate as a valued member of the team and a willingness to help where needed 

Location:  This programme is based in the community with Partner groups, namely: 

Old Library Trust Healthy Living Centre (Creggan), Strabane District Caring, 

Learmount Community Centre (Park), Hillcrest House (Top of the Hill, Waterside),

Shantallow Community Centre and Caw/Nelson Drive Action Centre (Caw, 

Waterside).

The main areas for volunteer recruitment at the moment are at:

Old Library Trust

Mondays 12.45pm – 2.30pm  Men’s Exercise Group (Preference for male volunteers if possible)

Tuesdays  Mellow Deeds Singing Group 12.00 – 2.00pm

Hillcrest House

Tuesdays 2 – 4pm  This is the Art and Craft Activity Group
