Volunteer Assistant for Arts project with Disabled Young - Waterside Theatre

The Waterside Theatre runs music therapy and drama workshops on a Saturday morning for young people aged 10 - 17 with physical, sensory and learning disabilities. The young people get the opportunity to participate in a multi-disciplinary art programme that encourages social skills, builds confidence and uses movement, performance and sound to encourage imaginative thought. the young people participating in this project have various disabilities to include autism, global development delay, severe learning disabilities and sensory impairment. this project not only allows the young people to have more fulfilled lives but also offers some much needed respite to parents/guardians. this is a great opportunity for a volunteer to gain valuable experience in working with disabled young people and seeing the benefits that the arts can bring to their lives.
