Activities Volunteer - Depaul / Foyle Haven

Role Description: To encourage social interaction in a homeless drop in centre for ex street drinkers.  Volunteers engage with service users by having a chat, play cards, play pool, gaming, organise quizzes or bingo, in-house befriending, watching movies, cookery, listening to music, creative activities etc.  Volunteers would also be on hand to assist staff in general daily tasks.  Volunteers should be flexible with their approach in relation to service users who have addiction issues, poor health, chaotic lifestyles and low self esteem.

Location: Foyle Haven, 23A John Street, Derry/Londonderry, BT48 6JY

Requirements: A rota system in place for 4 hour slots (morning, afternoon, evening).

Criteria: Ability to be flexible and encouraging when facilitating social activities within the Service.  Organised but patient approach.  Empathetic.  Good communication skills including active listening skills.  Ability to engage those with low self esteem and lack of motivation.  Ability to work with those with alcohol misuse problems and poor physical/mental health.
